BERLIN, Sept. 17 (Xinhua) -- One question has been on the minds of Germany's clubs for decades. In advance of the 58th Bundesliga season, things don't seem to have changed.
Maximilian Eggestein's moment of madness allowed Vladimir Darida to pass into the path of Dodi Lukebakio, who finished off a fast break after beating Jiri Pavlenka from the edge of the box in the dying seconds of the first half.
Cologne came out highly motivated after half-time and dominated proceedings, but still the "Billy Goats" squandered a number of chances.
"It [a return to international football] is a wish and a goal. I want to take it game-by-game and if the opportunity arrives I will be very happy. If it doesn't, I'll continue working hard so that I can be considered."
But there was no place for striker Edinson Cavani, who has yet to find a new club after parting ways with Paris Saint-Germain in June. The 33-year-old has not played since March.
The so-called "Knappenschmiede," Schalke's academy, has developed several of Germany's best players such as Leroy Sane and Manuel Neuer.
He added that although the veteran striker is currently training separately from the rest of the players, "if in the end he is unable to find another team, he will be another member in the squad here."

Chongqing broke the deadlock in the 57th minute with a low drive from Fernandinho after he got a wonderful pass from Kardec to make it 1-0.
Newcastle United also won away from home, defeating West Ham United 2-0 with goals from debutants Callum Wilson and Jeff Hendrick, and Crystal Palace made light of a lengthy injury list to beat Southampton 1-0 at Selhurst Park thanks to Wilfried Zaha's strike. Enditem
